INTRO TO FUSED GLASS $200 + $50 lab fee
2 Day Class 6 students max
April 18th 2008 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Fri-Sat
April 19th 2008 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Learn the fundamental techniques required for fused glass art. Glass compatibility, firing schedules, cold work, and volume control will be covered. Working from drawings or from your imagination, you'll create ideas by cutting designs out of fusible compatible sheet glass that will then be fused into a single piece of artwork.
In addition, students will be taught the basic operation of kilns. Students will experience a kiln firing while working on their projects. Proper use of grinders, saws, and other tools necessary for the production and finishing of fused glass will be discussed.
Students will create up to 2 ea 5" x 5" squares, double layer fuse for this class, and your choice of free form work such as pendants, key chains, and small sample tiles.

Vitreous glass painting on glass. Glass painting is the application of Stainers Colors, silver stains and enamels made of metal oxides and ground glass pigment mixed with different media applied and fired onto glass to illustrate images and design. Glass painting adds wonderful dimension to leaded and copper foiled works in glass.
During this session you will see slides of different applications for glass painting and watch a demonstration of mixing paints and painting on glass. We will discuss the painting process and view examples of the multilayering process. We will discuss equipment, tools, paints, types of glass used, brushes, and kilns used in this age-old art. Participants will have hands on experience with the glass paint mixing and applications. We will learn about firing the glass and will fire your experiments.

PHOTO EMULSION SILKSCREEN $320 + $160 for kit
with Vitreous Glass Paint
2 Day Class 4 students max June 27th - June 29th, 2008 10:00 am - 4 pm GAEA Available Vitreous glass paints are applied with silk screen and then fired. We will use 2 part photo emulsion, photo positives and photoemulsion film to transfer images onto glass and then fire them using Stainers Colors that will forever afix the image. We will also work with photo silk screen film to expose and transfer our designs and images to glass and then fire. This class will cover information on equipment used and mediums used to squeegee design onto the glass. We will also discuss firing schedules and enamel paints that can be applied and fired. We will work with photo positives from photo film you have taken, scanned, or downloaded photos and images created on the computer, which can be printed onto clear printing film. Such film is available for ink jet printers--images will need to be high contrast. If you do not have this capability you will need to acquire a photo negative converted to a photo positive printed on clear film from your local photography shop. We will work with sizes from 8" x 10" to 11" x 14". As many smaller positives may be exposed as will fit the screen--for example, 5" x 7" or smaller. Learn to create and enjoy functional glassware in this exploration of glass slumping. You will have the choice of plates or bowls. Students will design and fuse a blank consisting of two layers of glass size to fit your chosen mold. We will discuss slumping in contrast to draping, types of molds and mold preparation, firing schedules, and annealing. Please bring any food or drink you wish to have during class as there are no restaurants within 15 minutes of the studio. I also advise that you dress in layers for comfort. Bring your own glass tools, cutter, breakers, runners, etc. To register please call Lost Art Originals Studio: (509) 244-2260 ADVANCED VITREOUS GLASS PAINTING $380 + $150 kit 4 Day Class 6 students max June 21st through 25th, 2008 Thu-Mon GAEA Available Basic glass painting kit, mandatory. Cost: $150 1st night 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm All other days 10:00 am through 4 pm We will discuss design ideas and content of class. Please bring a drawing of the design you will paint. It will need to be the size of glass, 9" x 9"square. This class is to help you create the design of your choice. You will learn the process of tracing, matting for contour, and shading in this weekend's session. We will discuss the line considerations for tracing your design onto the glass on the first day. Each day you will fire your work. Types of kilns and how to use the kiln for firing glass paints will be discussed, and you will use a digital controller for kiln firing. On the 3rd and 4th days we will add color to the designs. We will only have enough time to add 2-3 colors to the piece of work in the remaining 2 days, so design for this concept. As glass painting is a multi layering process and labor intensive you may not finish your piece in this five day period. What you will learn from this class will allow you to finish on your own. We will learn firing schedule, equipment and tools and types of glass best used for glass painting. Glass and paint will be supplied for the class. Kit includes: Prerequisite: Introduction to Vitreous Glass Painting Please call Lost Art Originals Studio to register: (509) 244-2260 There is a Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Springs, Ramada, Holiday Inn, Microtel, Stratford Suites, and other hotels and motels within a 20 minute drive of the studio which are all close to the Spokane International Airport (GEG).
